David Malcolm McGruder serves as the Executive Pastor of Friendship-West
David Malcolm McGruder a minister, historian, theologian, and emerging prophetic voice for the contemporary church. Pastor McGruder currently serves as Executive Pastor at Friendship West Baptist Church in Dallas, TX, where Rev. Dr. Frederick Douglass Haynes III is Senior Pastor. Pastor McGruder’s ministry, professional, and community service experience includes work with Mt. Ennon Baptist Church in Clinton, MD; the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel at Morehouse College; the OOice of U.S. Senator Jerry Moran; the OOice of former U.S. Senator Pat Roberts; THRIVE Internship & Leadership Program; Faith Formula Human Services Inc., the Black Church Center for Justice and Equality, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change.
Pastor McGruder is a graduate of Morehouse College in Atlanta, GA, where he was awarded the Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship and Prize; Princeton Theological Seminary in Princeton, NJ, where he was awarded the Aaron E. Gast Prize in Urban Ministry; and Wolfson College, Cambridge in the UK, where he specialized in Tudor history (1485-1603), writing a dissertation on the role of religion, theology, and law in shaping racial constructs during the Tudor age.
Pastor McGruder takes pride in his family and remains dedicated to his faith, scholarship, and service to the community. His greatest joy is being the devoted husband of Toiya Marie McGruder (née Smith) of Fort Worth, TX.
